Mediation is to become compulsory before making applications to the Family or Federal Magistrates Courts once all Family Relationships Centres have been established. While the Family Relationships Centres will be funded for four hours of mediation, it will still be possible for mediation to occur through private mediators.
A mediated parenting plan does not require independent lawyers to give advice, although independant legal advice is required for property settlements and for these we recommend that lawyers attend the mediation.
